Trouble Shooting the BP555e Series Gummed Tape Dispensers:

Tape Feed Problems:

1) Feeds erratic short strips (feed wheels not gripping tape securely)

a.) Incorrect adjustment of set screw on cutter yoke assembly E555-049-01
b.) Worn idler assembly E555-053-00
d.) Worn feed wheel PW77CX

2) Long delays between repeated lengths

a.)  Check motor chain adjustment
b.)  Check circuit board

3)Tape feeds slowly

a.) Poor motor brush contact with commutator
b.) Worn motor brushes
c.) Defective motor ND105X
d.) Tape is binding

4) No Tape Feed

a.) Top cover not closed
b.) Missing magnet in top cover
c.)  Magnet not coming into contact with Magnetic Proximity Switch
d.)  Defective or disconnected Magnetic Proximity Switch
e.) Motor not operating ND105X
f.) Solenoid not operating E550X
g.) Blade does not go down, check cutter spring
h.) Cutter yoke far out of adjustment - feed wheel PW77CX
not gripping tape.

5) Tape Jams

a.) Shear blade FM20BXK doesn't lift up before tape feeds.
b.) Tape is being pinched by pressure plate due to worn moistening brushes
c.) Upper tape plate missing or not in correct position
d.) Moistening brushes in backwards or not set in tank properly.

6) Left hand corner of tape folded over

Lower feed wheel adjustment too tight causing the feed wheels to contact and feed tape before the blades gets out of the way.

7) On the BP555eSA and BP555eLA a beep is heard after each strip

a.) Check tape sensor mounted on the back of the heater for broken wires
b.) Check connection of tape sensor on circuit board

Electrical Problems:

1) Machine doesn't operate

a.) Check to make sure top cover is closed
b.) Make sure machine is plugged in
b.) Check main fuse

2) Heater doesn't work

a.) Check adjustment setting on top
b.) Check plug to main circuit board
c.) Check circuit board and/or heater

3) Some or all key selectors do not function

a.) Inspect ribbon cables for damage
b.) Check connection of cables to circuit board 

4) Motor doesn't operate

a.) Poor connection at wire nuts E634 and E634A under motor cover
b.) Worn motor brushes
c.) Brushes not contacting commutator
d.) Defective motor ND105X

5) Solenoid doesn't operate

a.) Poor connection at wire nuts E634, E634A under motor cover
b.) Defective solenoid E550X

6) Motor runs, tape is not dispensed

Check solenoid clevis pin, replace with bolt.

7) Blade in up position, or does not reset

Check cutter yoke spring E585C

Cutting Problems:

1) Shear Problems

a.) Shear blades have accumulated asphalt or non- asphaltic gum. Clean with suitable solvent and keep blade oiler fully oiled.
b.) Check stationary blade FM21X for correct lateral adjustment
c.) Blades dull FM20BXK
d.) Cutter spring E585C needs replacing
e.) Shear pivot holes cutter yoke E584RAX worn elongated
f.) Solenoid E550X has to much up and down motion on mounting plate.

Miscellaneous Problems:

1) Solenoid E550X buzzes.

a.) Solenoid mounting too tight. (not free to align itself)
b.) Solenoid mounting screws not evenly tightened.
(plunger of solenoid not evenly seated)
c.) Rust in and around plunger of solenoid.
d.) Solenoid sponge pad E599 worn or deteriorated. (E599 discontinued call for replacement option).

2) Tape roll jumps out when feeding.

a.) Core from previous roll of tape in machine.
b.) Tape not fed over white roller in rear of machine
